Micro-encapsulation

By means of micro-encapsulation, solid and liquid active substances can be homogeneously integrated into a carrier substance. Particles with a well-defined profile are produced which are resistant to external influences. In this way, for instance, pharmaceutical agents or flavours can be released targeted and time-delayed.

The active compound for a micro-encapsulation could be a flavour-oil, for example. For cover-material, substances like gelatine, gum arabic, starch, maltodextrin or cellulose are available. The apparatus- and plant-configurations of NEUHAUS NEOTEC can be designed for top- and bottom-spray processes. Depending on the initial substance this offers you the advantage of always getting the requested final product and reproducible processes.

Targets of micro-encapsulation:

  • Storage stability (protection against chemical reactions, oxygen, light, humidity)
  • Fixation of volatile compounds
  • Transformation of liquids into solid substances
  • Depot effect (targeted and time-delayed release of active ingredients)
  • Masking of taste or odour
  • Stable separation of incompatible substances
  • Enhancing of flowability
  • Reduction of dust and electrostatic charge

Example of application: Protection of flavours

By micro-encapsulation, citrus aroma is embedded in a solid matrix and homogeneously distributed. The final product are dust-free, compact, light and oxidation-protected flavour granules with an ideal release profile.
